Clustering, not to be confused with mind-mapping, is a thinking strategy that aids in fluency, organizing and categorizing information. Use of a cluster fosters the linking of vocabulary and concepts not always apparent on an A-Z Taxonomy. This strategy often goes beyond the taxonomy in making connections and extending comprehension.
Optimal use of this strategy is dependent upon the use of a BIG IDEA (Essential Question) in the center oval as a focus to drive student engagement and to aid in synthesizing understanding.
