The design of this book is intended to serve as a graphic organizer for exceeding the objectives set forth by the new Common Core Standards (New Learning Standards), to inspire students’ thinking, and to engage students in dialogue with the text and with each other. The written responses in this booklet are designed for students to give examples, cite evidence, and explain through writing, their understanding of the text.
There are many ways to utilize the graphic organizers in this Intermediate Fiction “Little Book”. For example, it can be used as an excellent tool for intervention, including formative and summative assessment. As a formative assessment tool, the teacher may utilize the pages in this “Little Book” in its entirety or one at a time; depending on the teaching point of the lesson. If you use “Benchmark Texts” you will find specific examples to illustrate the concepts covered herein.
